SUCH A FUNNY LIFE is a dark drama about the ups and downs of a stand-up comic named David Gutierrez (Gonzalo Trigueros).  He tackles the struggle of growing up with and overcoming mental abuse, a mother with Autism Spectrum Disorder and how to cope with death in the family and pressures from his environment to fall in with the wrong side of the law. This story follows David from a child to adulthood, as we see how his environment can attempt to hinder talent in his determination for success.
Writer/Director Oliver Mann came up with the idea for SUCH A FUNNY LIFE five years ago and has been working non-stop to get this story made. This intimate feature-length film explores environmental and social issues through the family’s brush with mental abuse and Autism. It’s a powerful example of overcoming societal and family pressure in order to succeed.

Why is this story so important?

I, Oliver Mann, am a writer-director who has been active for over eight years, directing and producing short films, fashion shows and other mediums. But SUCH A FUNNY LIFE is my most passionate project yet. To create a story about a character so complex yet somehow we can relate with, empathize and sometimes even disagree with. This screenplay has beckoned me for five years to be made, since then my team and I have worked on this film everyday towards the mission of it getting made. Even through trials and tribulations that I went through to tough it out, I continued to bring this story to life. The biggest tribulation was my father passing away in 2013 as the project was formulating. I wasn’t sure if I could go on to bring this film to fruition, but this is what my father would want. Similar to David, through any painstaking obstacle, we must soldier on.

The film and the road so far

All locations have been established and cast and crew fully committed. The shooting schedule is approximately three weeks, all in New York and at one sound stage. The promo trailer was put together and self financed by myself for putting together a trailer of having a visual representation for what’s in store. Throughout the process we have storyboarded the project, acquired cast and crew, raised a bit of money, and now we are ready to go. But now we need a bit more to finish the rest with your help!
