About the Film
We follow David Gutierrez who is an up and coming New York stand-up comic who is funny on stage but off stage he struggles with; the death of his sister Gabriella, taking care of his grieving mother Mariah who has Autism Spectrum Disorder and also dealing with his abusive father Ralph.
As he delves deeper into the world of comedy, his personal life crumbles with anger and paranoia as Ralph admits Mariah into a mental institution without David’s consent. Mariah blames David for the death of his sister which hurts David to the bone.
As his stand-up act is blurred by his dark life and the sudden disappearance of his abusive father Ralph that connects David with his street smart and dangerous childhood friend Rob Parker, he finds an opportunity to get money that will help the trajectory of his career but puts him in a dangerous web with Rob. David flees far away to Los Angeles to hone his craft and leave it all behind until years later he gets a life changing phone call of forgiveness from Mariah from the mental institution in New York. He decides to go to New York to bring her back to Los Angles until his dark past catches up with him.
